Abstract

The actual work proposes a theoretical study on traditional knowledge of Mapiko's masks, a cultural manifestation of Moçambique. It intends to explore issues related to the appropriation process of technic, symbology and creativity of the performer that uses such masks. Thereby the study proposes a description and analysis of Makipo's masks, based on the examination of the bibliography material and field research, wich will make possible the prodution of primary sources like videographic, photografic, written records and interviews. As references to realize comparatively the specificities of Makipo two other forms of technical, symbolical and creative appropriation will be used: the work proposed to actors by Jacques Lecoc, and the work to actors with balinese masks developed by the Amok Teatro e Cia Teatrl dos Bondrés do Rio de Janeiro.
