Abstract

Anti-inflammatory drugs are among the most prescribed and used in the world, however, its continued use may cause complications to the gastrointestinal tract. The metallodrugs, despite being shortly commercialized feature a potential in the development of new drugs. This project proposes to synthesize and characterize the anti-inflammatory drug sulindac and its non-steroid complexes with lanthanides and yttrium in solid state with the exception of promethium through thermoanalytical methods Thermogravimetry (TGA), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and powder X-ray diffractometry (XRD), infrared vibrational spectroscopy by diffuse reflectance (FTIR) and complexometric titration with EDTA. The thermoanalytical methods are used to verify the stoichiometry of the compounds, thermal decomposition, thermal stability, polymorphism, reactions in solid formulations of drugs, purity, among other properties. The synthesized complexes may have properties on the field of biotechnology that could be investigated further by other groups or through partnerships. (AU)
