Abstract

The current research focuses on the new information and communication technologies here represented by the system of cloud computing, a new manner of organizing information fluxes on the internet that dismisses the need to keep physical servers for data keeping, or to run essential applications or programs. In the empirical part of the research, the objective is to describe and analyze these systems and its actors, here constituted by not only its creators, maintainers or users, but by the very machines that harbor a contemporary way of thinking. The theoretical approach proposes to retrieve the notion of power and the contributions of Michel Foucault (2008, 2011) about the sovereignty and disciplinary societies, and of Gilles Deleuze (2010) about the control society, to analyze the constitution of tactics, techniques and mechanisms that go through and compose the object in question. The sociological debate, especially from anglo-foucaultians such as Nikolas Rose (1999), is essential to this reflection, which, in a broader perspective, observes the relations between transformations in capitalism and current technology. To allow the emergence of the new struggles that characterize actuality, the project intends to start from a genealogy of the correlations of forces that permeate this historical moment and cloud computing.
