Abstract

The periodontal disease is a infectious disease of a multifactorial character caused by periodontopathic micro-organisms and that suffer influence by factors like: genetic susceptibility of the host, reaction of the immune system, smoking habits and systemic diseases. Recent studies had investigate polymorphism in IL8 and IL4 genes in patients with and without genetical predisposition to periodontitis even after adjust for age, gender, skin color and smoking habits. The objective of this study is evaluate a possible association between genetical susceptibility to chronic periodontitis caused by haplotypes in the genes IL8 and IL4 and the levels of the periodontopathic Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans in patients with and without periodontal disease. The levels of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans will be analyzed by absolute quantification by the use of PCR in real time. The clinical and microbiological data will pass through parametric and non-parametric statistics (at the 5 % level of significance). With this study is expected to contribute with a better understanding of the possible interrelationship of different factors like the genetic, immunological and microbiological in the periodontal disease, as it has a multifactorial character.
