Abstract

Farms that do not have control of their costs and budgets are at risks, such as lack of business results, the incorrect increase or decrease of the activities unnecessary investments, the possibility to become indebted, and loss of earnings by productivity. Therefore, the survey of costs is able to support future decision-making, and it is essential to enable agricultural production. The "Deming Cycle" is a widespread management tool in business around the world, but still little known and used in agriculture. The methodology devised by William Edwards Deming, who in the 30s became famous for guiding the development of quality Japanese post-war, was the "PDCA cycle". It is used to drive processes to continuous reassessment and therefore continuous improvement. Within the planning, as one of the principles of PDCA, there are the goals to be achieved and the plan to achieve them. It is part of the plan called "Standard Operating Procedure" (SOP). The SOP should contain detailed instructions sequence of operations and frequency of application, specifying the person responsible for implementation, a listing of equipment, parts, and materials used in the task, the task description of the procedures for critical activities, among others. The objective of this research is to develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for activities standardizing investigation and control of production costs, applying the Research Laboratory of Beef Cattle FMVZ / USP Campus Pirassununga. The SOP developed can be used to lift and control costs of beef cattle of commercial farms, as a useful management tool for producers. (AU)
