Abstract

The aim of the study is to assess the possible influence of gestational stress on maternal-filial relationship and performance of the lamb, as well as the stress of weaning on feedlot performance and carcass The experiment will run on sheep and goad sector, Faculty of Animal Science and Food Engineering from the University of São Paulo in Pirassununga, Brazil. It will be used 60 crossbred females breed Santa Ines, that after artificially fertilized with sperm of Santa Ines males will be randomly allocated into six treatments: The experiment will be randomized (DIC) having a 3 x 2 factorial scheme as the distribution of treatments with 3 groups (control (GC), application of LPS at 70 days of gestation (GI), and at 120 days of gestation (GF)) combining with 2 types weaning (abrupt weaning (Da) and weaning controlled (Dc)). We will analyze the levels of cortisol in saliva and its influence on maternal-filial behavior and performance of lambs considering birth weight (PN), weaning weight (PD), dry matter intake (CMS), feed conversion (CA), feed efficiency (EA), average daily gain (GMD) and carcass yield (RC). The analysis will be performed using the PROC MIXED of SAS. For the maternal behavior analysis will branch to the theory of generalized linear model proposed by Wenderburn and Nelder (1972), using the SAS GLIMMIX's procedure. It is expected to find relationships between stress and performance at different life stages of the animal. (AU)
