Abstract

Phoridae is a morphologically and ecologically diverse family, which can still be considered poorly studied and with a controversial taxonomy. One of the more dubious aspects of Phoridae taxonomy is the relationship between the genera of the probably paraphyletic subfamily Phorinae- the focus of the PhD project "Cladistic analysis of the subfamily Phorinae". The BEPE project proposed here addresses the particular problem of the taxonomy of the genus Phora based on the collection of the Los Angeles Natural History Museum (LACM), which is largely key to solve phylogenetic and nomenclatural problems in the cladistic study of the subfamily as a whole. The objectives of this study are the taxonomic delimitation of Phora species and the recognition of phylogenetically informative characters of Phora that may allow the identification of large clades of species within the genus.
