Abstract

A shift in the leisure field brings up new paradigms. Peculiar recreational practices and competitive events are been part of the current agenda. In particular, those realized in nature, related to risk for physical integrity, and eventually death, called adventure activities, have shown a considerable increase in the number of its adherents. Competitions document a growing number of subscribers and factories, shops and specialized media vehicles are created to cover them. Evidence that these activities are operators of values and significant issues for contemporaneity, as well as producers of new problems with which to deal. This project aims to investigate how the state has incorporated and conceived these practices historically related to criticism of conservative ways of life and politics of big cities. The analysis will be through the comparison of data about how public policies for these activities are being prepared by the government, with those on local demands and forms of implementing these policies. Data will be constructed via ethnographic research (with application of different techniques, insofar as necessary to supplement the description that it assumes: document analysis, direct and participant observation and opened interviews) within political agents whose participation in different instances of the dispute for standardization in this field through a national program, influence to a greater or lesser extent, formulations of the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and Sport.
