Abstract

The rapid population growth and agri-industrial activities in the last decades has been causing the increase in water consumption and deterioration both of the quantity and the quality of this natural resource, which tends to be even more affected by climate change, with changes in the regime of precipitation and temperature, causing problems in water availability. This scenario is occurring in several regions on the national scene, indicating the need for studies of water availability, the definition of public policies to reach the sustainability, efficient water use, which includes the maintenance of quantity and quality. Therefore, the objective of this project is to evaluate the trend of the quantity and quality of water, and the demand/availability, and to investigate the possible cause the possible trends, in basins sited in Brazilian biomes. It aims to create subsidies for water resources management in Brazil and propose specific actions, according the necessity for each region.
