Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate Seyla Benhabib's proposal of "interactive universalism" as an ethical theory at the same time universalist and context sensitive, specially regarding the issue of moral motivation. The key concept of our investigation is the Principle of Universalizability. In Benhabib's view, this principle must comprehend a moral conversation based on the principles of universal moral respect and egalitarian reciprocity. Our purpose is to ask: (i) the meaning of moral conversation, universal moral respect and egalitarian reciprocity; (ii) how Benhabib handles these concepts in order to establish the interactive universalism.
