Abstract

Can handicraft and manufacture be brought into parallelism concerning the genesis of the object viola? The materials allocated on such environments of craft arrange under specific conditions variable routes for the same tasks: building and repairing the object viola. When contouring the artisan and manufacture environments, the object viola refracts the discourses about its existence in favor of the resources which assure its well defined boundaries. Whatever the discourses about the web-frames of these craft surroundings, it is the functional inboard of this object the crucial and topic prop of a logic: the techno-logic. Craft environments thus assign this research a problem of Comparative Technology, conducted by an analogical procedure which reveals the artisan and manufacture technical activities in the building and reparing of the object viola. The material dimension of the inquiry acts as a methodological catalyst for research experimentation: the craft environments emphasize some material operations able to grant a different perspective on tools, machinary and technicians which, by another perspective, would be perceived by their closed and stable results. The medium, the potentially compatible processes between artisan and manufacture environments are the scheme of this investigation in Compative Technology: the object viola is a process of individuation, always incomplete, transitory and capable of being rearranged.
