Abstract

Osteosarcoma is a common malignant bone tumor in dogs, with a preference for large breeds, and has a high metastatic potential. In humans, it occurs with higher incidence in childhood and represents 5% of the malignancies in this age group. Although this bone tumor is considered rare, it is the most common bone neoplasm and the second cause of death from cancer in children. Osteosarcoma has similarities in dogs and humans, thus canine osteosarcoma can be a useful model for this disease's studies in humans, supporting the development of new therapeutic approaches and a better understanding of the biology of bone tumors. Therefore, the influence of genetic factor in the osteosarcoma development has been widely studied and recognized and it aims to compare dogs and humans. It has been advance in neoadjuvant canine osteosarcoma treatment and the new approaches have been capable to prolong survival and maintain a functional limb without pain and metastases, but the expectations are rare yet. Currently, there are many doubts about the interaction between stromal cells and tumor and it has been poorly studied. Therefore, this study aims to isolate the exosomes derived from metastatic and non metastatic human and dog osteosarcomas and to evaluate their molecular profile. (AU)
