The mdx mice, an animal model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), develops an inflammatory myopathy recessive X-linked, characterized by degeneration of muscles fibers and substitution by connective tissue. Due to this broad impairment in skeletal muscle, because of muscular dystrophy, lacunae are present in the possible changes and/or adaptations in the morphological components of the tongue. These possible morphological changes can compromise the coating epithelium of the dorsal surface, their projections through of the lingual papillae and the different types of lingual salivary glands. The aim of this study will be describe the possible morphological changes in structural, ultrastructural and molecular of the tongue of dystrophic mice. It will be used 46 mice organized in two groups: MDX Group: n = 23 (C57bl/10mdx) and the Control Group: n = 23 (C57BL/10) both with 6 months old. The animals of both groups will be anesthetized and your tongues dissected. These samples will be processed for structural, threedimensional, morphometric and ultrastructural analysis employing techniques for light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and high resolution scanning electron microscopy. The results of this study may help to elucidate the alterations in morphology of the tongue of DMD, thus, plan future therapeutic interventions. (AU)
