Abstract

The Stroke is defined by the World Health Organization as the presence of disruption of brain activity causing a major impact on quality of life. For the rehabilitation of the paretic upper limb (PUL), in many services, has been some use the forced use therapy (FUT). But, in the literature there are no reports if occurs functional deficits in upper limb constriction. This study aims to determine whether there is impairment in upper limb (UL) in constriction after application of FUT, for 24 hours daily, for 4 weeks, with assessment using Surface Electromyography (EMG) and dynamometry. Patients will be randomized into 2 groups: FUT and the control group (will receive conventional physiotherapy treatment). Evaluations will be held before (Start), with 2 weeks of intervention (Intermediate), and the end (Final) and 3 months after completion of treatment (follow-up). The assessment instruments are the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale, the Wolf Motor Functional Test (WMFT), digital hand dynamometer and surface electromyography in the extensors muscles. At this writing was done the selection of patients and 11 patients have been entered into the treatment protocol.
