Abstract

The lack of effective choices for the treatment of cutaneous canine lymphoma encourage the search for new therapeutic targets. In the tumor microenvironment, macrophages could stimulate the proliferation of malignant cells, through production of growth factors that promote angiogenesis, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The role of lymphoma associated macrophages (LAM) has been investigated in humans, demonstrating a strong association with prognosis. This research aims to evaluate the presence of LAM and expression of VEGF in cutaneous lymphomas by immunohistochemistry. Thirty paraffin blocks of canine cutaneous lymphoma will be sellected from Department of Pathology of Veterinary Hospital of UNIFRAN. Lymphomas will be classified into epitheliotropic or non-epitheliotropic (by histopathological evaluation) and into T or B (according to the immunophenotype by immunohistochemical analysis). Expression of VEGF and LAM will be determined by immuno-histochemical staining and interpretation of the results will be made by percentage of the number of cells. For all evaluations will be considered 5% alpha.
