It is known that hydroxylated derivatives of lophine, when electrochemically oxidized, undergo a proton transfer reaction coupled to an electron transfer one through a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) process. Once that the chemiluminescent peroxyoxalate reaction goes through an electron transfer event during one of its main mechanistic steps, several hydroxylated derivatives of lophine, containing electron-donor and withdrawer groups, will be prepared and characterized in order to study light emission-kinetical processes using these derivatives as activators. It is expected that a correlation will be found between the structure of derivative and the electron transfer efficiency, in a PCET fashion. This will be the first example of a PCET induced chemiluminescent reaction.
