Abstract

Technological disasters such as oil spills are events which can create great social and environmental impacts besides disrupting affected communities. Associated to these, are the conflicts generated by the communities' difference in perception of actions of response and management of these accidents and the action of institutions considered responsible. During this visiting program, the intention is to acquire theoretical reference and empirical experience in order to investigate the public perception of the performance of institutions specialized in oil spills in coastal regions both in Brazil and in the United States.
