Abstract

We propose in this project to understand what are the experiences related to ethnic and religious aspects, existing in marriage between Brazilian women (Muslim or not), and a Turkish Muslim men. Intends to verify who are the Brazilian women that marry with Turks Muslims men and know the meanings these women attribute to this union; examine issues relating to cultural adaptation (habits, customs, rituals, norms of relationship and religious practice); understand marital satisfaction by comparing it to living in Brazil or Turkey. Will be adopted the ethnographic method, conventional and virtual, through the insertion of the researcher in some Turkish institutions installed in Brazil, as in Turkey, and also in virtual communities of Brazilian women married to Turkish Muslims men, once we understand cyberspace as a constitutive dimension of a society where the subjects are constructed and operate. As an instrument of data collection will be used interviews and observation of interactions (online or not) conducted via chat, Skype, video conference or in person, field diaries, photographs and visual records: videos and movies. Data analysis will occur by theme, using the cross-cultural psychology to understand the content collected. Indeed, it is expected to understand this new social phenomenon that settles in our society, but it still lacks understanding by academics and by the people who lives these kind of marriage.
