Abstract

The genital prolapse are classified into anterior wall prolapse, posterior or apical prolapse. For apical prolapse, there are several surgical techniques described, with vaginal or abdominal approach, using or not a mesh inlay. However, there is no evidence about which one is the most effective and has lower recurrence rates. Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of abdominal sacral colpopexy and vaginal sacrospinous colpopexy to correct uterine prolapse apical. This is a retrospective study, which included all women with apical prolapse underwent prolapse repair by one of the two surgical techniques, at Women's Hospital, between 2005-2012. The uterine prolapses will be valued by POP-Q technique. Rates of subjective and objective cure, immediate and late complications, recurrence rates of prolapse, urinary incontinence before and after surgery, BMI, comorbidities (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, COPD), smoking and use of hormonal therapy will be compared. It will be calculated the prevalence of cure rates, complications, recurrence and incontinence, and they will be compared using the chi-square test. Continuous variables will be compared by ANOVA measuring POP-Q in order to evaluate the effect of the group, the time, and the difference between the times. For other dependent variables will be used the McNemar test. The significance level is 5% and the software used for the analysis will be SAS.
