Abstract

Residual tidal currents occur associated with co-oscillation tide on the continental shelf. They may be important in the transport of volume or substances dissolved or suspended in seawater and they should be quantified in the developing environmental studies in coastal areas, because they may advect perennial dissolved pollutants. The scientific hypothesis of this proposal is that the residual tidal currents contribute to the flow and transport of substances in the São Sebastião Channel. To verify this hypothesis, it was established as the general objective of the study in the tidal band of São Sebastião Channel's circulation and flow through the use of numerical modeling. The model will be used is Delft3D, a multidimensional model that had showed adequate results for coastal, estuarine, ocean and rivers.
