Abstract

The perception of time intervals is an important characteristic of an organism's cognition. However, the structure of the neural networks that underlie such process has not been unveiled yet, and several models were proposed in order to describe the perception of time intervals of distinct lengths. In this project we will evaluate existing models of time perception, focusing on state-dependent networks. We will attempt to unify these models with a hippocampus CA3 subregion model, in an effort to understand the role of recently observed hippocampal timecells in time perception. To that end, we will use a neural network simulation with integrate-and-fire model neurons, recurrent connections and heteroassociative synaptic weights. We will analyze the simulation results and compare them toneurophysiological data.
