Abstract

Previous results on fungi isolated from attine ant nests showed that the internal transcribed spacer region unsuccessfully resolved the identification of Cladosporium isolates at the species level. In the present study, by combining sequencing of the elongation factor alpha gene (EF1-a) and phylogenetic analyses of 30 unidentified Cladosporium isolates, we expect to assess whether the EF1-a has enough taxonomic resolution to barcode the fungal isolates recovered from the ant nests.
