Abstract

Thinking about the relationship between lacanian psychoanalysis and gender theories has been a productive effort for both psychoanalytic clinic and for social criticism. Judith Butler, nowadays, occupies a central position in this debate. The American philosopher appeals to Lacan's theories, especially to demonstrate that sexuality fails in the process to conform itself to social norms by which it is regulated; on the other hand, she criticizes certain psychoanalytical references. There is, however, a point of impasse in the american philosopher's theory: she would not have been addressed to the lacanian developments such as the register of the real and the formulas of sexuation; she would have been restricted to the previous lacanian theory that privileged the symbolic order to the understanding of sexual difference. I propose to investigate payhways to overcome this impasse thorught the Lacan's seminars XVIII to XXI, witch could bring innovative perspectives to sexual difference research and induce a review about the criticism that Butler addresses to Lacan.
