Abstract

Based on Fortier (2022) definition of queer diaspora as "the condition of exile and estrangement experienced by queer subjects, which locates them outside the confines of 'home': the heterosexual family, the nation, the homeland." (8), this research aims to analyse the represantation of immigrant, queer women in irish contemporary literature. In order to do this, this research will analyse the novels 'The Henna Wars' (2020) and 'Hani and Ishu guide to fake dating' (2021), by the author Adiba Jaigirdar. Through the analysis, it would be possible to have a further understanding of how the characters place themselves in their home culture and the local culture, and how each one of them deals with the struggles presented to them due to their multifaceted identities. Beyond that, it would be possible to study how their 'differences' are used to place them as the other, and how the characters move through this otherness within their own communities. The theoretical basis is mainly funded in the Irish studies (O'TOOLE 2009; O'TOOLE 2013; CLEARY AND CONOLLY 2005), diaspora and cultural identity studies (HALL 1990, 2002, 2006; SAID 1994; SPIVAK 2010; BRAH 1996; BHABHA 1994; WOODWARD 1990), gender and queer studies (BUTLER 2015; MARINUCCI 2010; JAGOSE 2002; SHULMAN 2009; SEDGWICK 1990, 1993), and queer diaspora studies (HAYES 2016; CHARCZUN 2019; FORTIER 2002; BRAIDOTTI 1994).
