Abstract

Seed vigor has been evaluated by physiological, biochemical and stress tolerance tests. More recently, with the use of computerized image analysis, objective information can be obtained in a relatively short period of time, with less human interference. The objective of this research will be to identify efficient tests to evaluate the vigor of seed carrots cultivar Brasilia, with emphasis on the analysis of digital images of seedlings, using the software Seed Vigor Imaging System (SVIS ®), developed by Ohio State University (USA), and using the equipment CropReporter at Plant Research International, Wageningen, The Netherlands. Will also be conducted the following vigor tests together with the digital analysis of seedlings in five evaluation periods: germination, first count of germination, speed of germination, accelerated aging, with saline solution, and seedling emergence. After, the image analysis tests will be conducted using the equipment CropReporter over a period of three months, on the installations of the Plant Research International.
