Abstract

This research project aims at presenting to FAPESP the proposal for a second period of research internship abroad during the PhD studies of Priscilla B. Silva, in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UNICAMP and funded by FAPESP through Process number 2010/17317-9. This internship would take place at "Institut National des Sciences Appliquées Centre Val de Loire" (INSA CVL), located in Blois, France, under the supervision of Professor Jean-Mathieu Mencik, who has an extensive expertise in the analysis of vibroacoustic problems via wave based approaches. The main objective of this research is the development of wave finite element (WFE) based approaches for predicting the dynamic behavior of complex systems involving periodic structures and internal acoustic fluids. Such systems are commonly encountered in the aeronautic and off-shore industries (e.g., aircraft cabins filled with air, multi-layered fluid-filled pipes and so on). The description of their vibroacoustic behavior by means of accurate and fast numerical tools constitutes a tough and original scientific challenge which is addressed here within the framework of the WFE method. It is important to mention that Prof. J.-M. Mencik has came to UNICAMP as a visiting Professor for two months (August and September 2013, "Cátedras Francesas na UNICAMP" program) to initiate a strong collaboration with Professor José Roberto de França Arruda and his Ph.D student Priscilla B. Silva on the topic of WFE based superelements for periodic structures. A research article is already in preparation on this topic. This request of a research internship at INSA CVL hence appears as a logical way to consolidate further this fruitful collaboration initiated at UNICAMP between the Department of Computational Mechanics (DMC) at UNICAMP and the Laboratory of Mechanics and Rheology (LMR) at INSA CVL.
