Abstract

Grinding is a machining process frequently used in the manufacturing process, and is intended to correct some errors resulting from machining processes and earlier manufacturing to it, such as: precision measurements adjustments and improve the surface finish. Much has been studied about this process in recent years, due to its importance. However, little is known about the grinding of materials with interrupted geometry (the part with grooves), even though quite common to use this type of material in the industry. This type of workpiece geometry is generally studied in the conventional machining processes, such as turning and milling. However, nothing was found in the formal literature in relation to the grinding process. Another factor that directly influences the grinding process is the cooling. This is because during the grinding process there is a great heat generation in the cutting region, which can result in damage to the piece as well as other problems in the process, such as increased tool wear and increased cutting efforts. The refrigerant is responsible for lowering the temperature of the grinding zone, and lubricate the contact between part / grinding wheel and remove debris from the cutting area process. The use of cutting fluids implies improvements in machining operations, providing greater productivity. The most common is the use of plenty of fluid with a view to cutting fluids are capable of providing a highly satisfactory grinding. This project aims to study the rectification of AISI 4340 steel with interrupted geometry, with the use of a CBN grinding wheel, also using high pressure cooling method.
