Abstract

The project Costume and Puppet Theater: The Giramundo and Royal de Luxe aims to analyze and reflect on the specific elements that are part of Puppet Theater. Through a panoramic view of the history of Puppet Theater, it identifies the similarities in the costume construction of puppets and humans in the period these puppets are created. The research aims to show that costume design for puppets follows, somehow, whether in the use of the materials or the shape or the elements that compose it, the "human" costume in its varied diversity. As study cases, two groups have been chosen: the Brazilian puppet group Giramundo (from Minas Gerais) and the French street theater group Royal de Luxe (from Nantes). The analysis is conducted based on three productions of each company. From Giramundo, Cobra Norato (1979), Giz (1988/2008) and Vinte Mil Léguas Submarinas (2007/ 2012). From Royal de Luxe, the shows that are part of the Saga of the Giants, done between 1994 and 2012. (AU)
