Abstract

In regard to the research on place vulnerability in a regional scale in the microregion of Limeira (SP); the region is taken as a living space, with such intense spatial interactions that the regional turns into an urban-regional organic whole. In order for the region to become a living space, the decrease in travel times is necessary, since it allows simple everyday activities to be pursued in another municipality. In this case, the link between mobility and vulnerability is investigated, aiming to understand how mobility operates, ambivalently, to protect of certain risks, as it exposes oneself to others. The mobility in densely urbanized areas is a key to understand the whole process of regional organization that impacts direct or indirectly on the environmental change phenomenon, considering it involves individual choices, accessibility and structure, and the involvement of people with the place and region, revealing the geography of risks at the regional level. The everyday mobilities are delineated in the regional space inaccurately, from the combination of these and other factors, which makes it very hard to capture using secondary data. One of the challenges is to identify categories that describe the phenomena raised here (personal choice, accessibility and involvement with the place). In other words, the challenge is to grasp the multidimensionality and the relationship between different dimensions of mobility and vulnerability and its relations with the geography of regional risks.
