Soil fertility in restored areas in the country side of São Paulo State

Abstract

Considering the current necessity to develop techniques and tools for monitoring the development of areas in process of restoration, this project aims to compare the fertility and the physical characteristics of soils in restored areas in the country side of São Paulo state, located in the municipalities of Santa Bárbara D'Oeste, Iracemápolis, Cosmópolis and Rio Claro, with different ages, 14, 25, 56 and 97 years respectively, and sizes, 20, 50, 10 and 4.2 hectares respectively. In each selected area will be collected disturbed and undisturbed soil samples at depths from 0 to 0.2 m and from 0.2 to 0.4 m. To evaluate soil fertility, it will be determined values of cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the soil by sum of exchangeable bases plus sum of exchangeable hydrogen and aluminum, pH in H2O and CaCl2, potential acidity, concentration of exchangeable aluminum, average levels of macronutrients calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, average levels of micronutrients boron, copper, iron, manganese and zinc and the levels of organic matter. Regarding the evaluating of the physical characteristics, it will be performed analysis of particle size, density, aggregate stability, macro and micro porosity.
