Abstract

The climacteric is the period following the childbearing age and prior to old age and it is characterized by a gradual reduction in ovarian function, and although it is physiological, it manifests itself differently for every woman. The serum reduction in estrogen causes physiological changes that may affect the expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors. The use of phytoestrogens such as isoflavones derived from Glycine max (L.) Merr as topical vaginal creams may cause a significant change in the receptors in the vaginal epithelium.
