Abstract

The process of teaching and learning thought through formal schooling involves some important dimensions such as technical, human and political. It is a fact that school has been working the technical dimension and of content some way throughout the years. However, the political and human dimensions do not appear so clearly in the pedagogical process and even less in the performances of teachers. In this research, we intend to search what elementary school teachers think and do with regard to ethics and moral formation of students. For this purpose we will have the theoretical studies of Jean Piaget (1932) and Lawrence Kohlberg (1992), on the development of judgment and moral reasoning, and studies that deal with the construction of value. The method adopted will be the ethnographic, with participation of the researcher in everyday life of the schools surveyed and conducting observations and interviews with the participating teachers. We hope to undertake this study can contribute in some measure to the defense of a integral education that is worth of the human and political dimensions, beyond the technical, in search of a truly just and democratic society.
