Abstract The pelvimetry is the metric determination of the pelvic dimensions and its use is directly connected with reproduction. In pacas, the pelvis is tight, elongated and composed by a pair of ilium, ischium and pubis. The cartilage´s time of closure varies according to each bone, and some can close during intrauterine life, while some can persist for many years. The aim of this research is to exam, through radiography, the age at which the closure of bone centers calcify in the ilium, ischium and pubis, as well as the pelvic evolution by means of pelvimetry in the first 12 months of life in the paca, the second largest Brazilian rodent, and an animal that has gained recent great scientific interest in many studies. Then, 8 animals, or the maximum of animals that may be born during the research, which will be evaluated with radiographs every month from their birth until the age of 12 months or when the cartilage closure of ilium, ischium and pubis happens. The animals will be sedated with meperidine (2.5mg/kg) and diazepam (0.5 mg/kg) with intramuscular injection, and anaesthesiated with ketamine (20mg/kg) and xylazine (1.5mg/kg). The radiographs will be analyzed from the youngest to the oldest animal. | |
