Abstract The project is divided in five parts and the first and third of it are already developed. In the first part, a complex sampling design was used to estimate dog and cat demographic parameters, from the urban area of Votorantim, SP, municipality. A total of 118 parameters were estimated and for each one, the precision and the design effect of the sampling design were calculated. In the second part, an algorithm to calculate the size and composition of a complex sampling design will be validated. Specifically, the correspondence between a priori precision specified in the algorithm and the precision obtained in stochastic routines will be assessed. The accuracy of the estimates obtained in that routines will also be assessed. In the third part, data from the survey was used to identify opinion profiles about dog and cat abandonment. Multiple correspondence analysis were used to characterize and assess the associations between opinions about frequent fates of owned animals, about the tolerance that other citizens have regarding potentially problematic behavior of their animals, the presence of dog or cats in the households of the respondents and the existence of reasons to abandon the self animals. In the fourth part, a mathematical model of coupled ordinary differential equations will be developed to assess the effect of different population management scenarios, considering the reproductive control, the abandonment, the adoption, and replacement of animals. In the fifth part, a mathematical model of coupled differential equations will be used to asses the efficiency of reproductive control methods with temporary effects. (AU) | |
