Abstract

Recent evidence in the literature strongly suggest that the receptor vitronectin , the alphavbeta3 integrin is an important pharmacological target in preventing metastases. In our laboratory was standardized methodology for silencing transient beta3 subunit of integrin alphavbeta3 with the aim of studying the role this receptor in the tumor microenvironment and transmigration of tumor cells Breast line MDA - MB -231. The transmigration of cells silenced for this integrin through endothelial cells was significantly reduced. The same was observed when we used the DisBa disintegrin - 01, a specific blocker of this integrin. This treatment also significantly inhibited the expression of the factor vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the endothelium but not in tumor cells. So, this study aims to determine whether the silencing of expression alphavbeta3 integrin affects the expression of VEGF by tumor cells as well as other signaling molecules.
