Abstract

The Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD) cardiovascular disease is the most important in Cardiovascular Medicine for small animals. Although treatment strategies change according to the stage of the disease, exercise programs are not part of the standard therapy of the disease. In humans has been demonstrated that appropriate training can even be beneficial as adjunctive treatment of certain cardiovascular diseases. Thus, this study aims to assess the effects promoted by systematized training treadmill in dogs with MMVD. A total of 18 dogs are selected and divided into three groups according to the severity of the disease (based on the relative size of the left atrium/aorta). The incremental exercise test will be performed to detect the lactate threshold relating it with the heart rate, thereby setting the heart rate related to the lactate threshold (FCLL). In the following, be carried out eight consecutive weeks training, 70% based on the speed-related FCLL. Will evaluate specific cardiac biomarkers (the N-terminal atrial natriuretic peptide and B-type, and troponin I), as well as non-specific biomarkers (creatine kinase MB fraction, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase). Employee will be tested for normality of residuals and analysis of variance followed by Tukey's test to compare the means of several parameters. Statistical analyzes will be conducted with a significance level of 5%. (AU)
