Abstract

The project focuses on the set of images made by the lithographer Jules Martin. Known as the creator of the Viaduto do Chá, he founded one of the first lithographic workshops of the province in 1870. The research aims to survey the sparsely archived material created by him and then develop an iconographic catalogue. The aim is to clarify the trajectory of this subject, under the hypoteshis that Martin was a prolific image producer in a society marked by urban changes, and seek to nuance the production and circulation of his images, questioning the ways the city was represented there and indicating how the author dealt with the modernization of the province. Throught this research, it is possible to define the lithographer's social place and to question how his images acted in relation to the city's visuality in that historical moment. (AU)
