Abstract

This project for Undergraduate Research Scholarship request is included in a main project which has as objective the development of specimens based on calcium phosphate for the supracortical osteogenisis study. A requisite for the correct dental implant installation is related to the suitable bone substrate, which assures the success through the biomechanical stability. As ceramics based on calcium phosphate are unable to induce any local or systemic adverse reaction, it will be used in this project. The materials to be used are: Hydroxyapatite, ²-Tricalcium-phosphate and biphasic compositions and it will be processed by gelcasting, aiming to obtain either porous or dense configuration. Another alternative to be tested is the application of the Hydroxyapatite coated by star-shaped poly-µ-caprolacton, which was developed in partnership with Dr. Alvaro Q. Queiroz from Itajuba University and, currently, used by a PhD student of Dr. J. C. Bressiani, Eleni C. Kairalla. Disk shaped specimens of that material were used and has presented remarkable results ate the in vivo experiments. To processing of the specimens, conventional Isostatic pressing can be used. The research project f the student is focused in the processing and characterization of the materials; processing must to be modified according to the results presented by the experiments in vitro e in vivo obtained by the others group members. To the characterization of the materials developed, X-Ray Diffraction technique will be applied, followed by application of methods of Structure Analysis based on X-Ray Scattering, which were learned by the student in a training period of 1 year at the Institute for Structural Physics of the Thechnische Universität Dresden, TUD, in Germany.
