Abstract

The line "Plasmonic devices in graphene and coupling to photonic waveguides" of the SPEC research project (ongoing) aims to excite plasmonic modes from optical waveguide modes using, for this end, metallic nanostructures as scatterers (see main text of the project). Therefore, it is very important to know the characteristics of the optical modes in waveguides and of the plasmonic modes in graphene and, especially, their respective propagation constants. Furthermore, it is important to optimize characteristics such as size and geometry of the nanostructures that intermediate the coupling. This work plan for a PhD student aims to study in depth, through numerical simulations and experiments, the coupling between the optical modes of waveguides produced during the project and the plasmonic modes of graphene sheets. Different waveguides, wavelengths, graphene samples and nanostructures will be studied in order to maximize the coupling effect. The student will be working in close proximity with other postdocs and researchers involved in the project. (AU)
