Abstract The project intends to study the conformation of the field of professional photography in São Paulo and its relation to the visual dimension of the society between 1920 and 1940. We will analyze in historical perspective the production of Theodor Preising (1883-1962) in their circuits of production, circulation, consumption, apropriation and action. Without losing sight the other dimensions, the emphasis will be on circulation of the visual materials in order to perceive them in situation in the social interaction as objects susceptible to resignification and not just how pure content of permanent features. This approach enables understanding of the trajectory of agency of artifacts by individuals, social networks and institutions that participate in the visual economy and sustain the circulation and the formation of visuality. On a reduced scale, it is intended to reconstitute the professional trajectory of photographer Theodor Preising to understand their integration in the field of professional photography and on a large-scale, evaluate how the structuring of the professional field is related to the consolidation of visual culture during the period studied and over time.
