Abstract

The use of infiltrating Icon® has shown efficacy around 60% when applied in early caries lesions. The addition of an antimicrobial agent such as chlorhexidine diacetate (CHX) material infiltrant (Icon®) could control in adhesion of biofilm on the surface of the material, preventing the recurrence of carious lesions or progression, increasing the effectiveness of therapy. Aim the study is to evaluate the contact angle of the commercial infiltrant Icon® (DMG - Hamburg, Germany), with and without the addition of CHX at concentrations of 0.1 % and 0.2 %, to evaluate the effect of addition CHX on the wettability of infiltrant. The wettability of the material is measured by the contact angle on a smooth and rough surface of a glass slide, so the smaller the angle (0 to 90 - has the capability of solid wetting), a lower surface tension and a higher to penetrate the material.
