Abstract

The main aim of this project is to identify the image that the infancy education professionals have about themselves, about the job they do and about their role in education. Taking into consideration the production which is already being conducted in the area, we intend to deepen the theme, to address some weaknesses that make the teaching at this level, even in a period characterized by a process of professionalization of teaching which includes, among other factors context an elevation of the level of training required for their exercise. A first approach in the specific literature, referring to infant education, permit to identify some inconsistent and polemic aspects about the professional identity in this area. These preliminary results raised some important questions regarding social and symbolic values of teaching as well as the place that these professionals occupy in the education field.
