Evaluation of toll like receptors on breast carcinoma in cats: correlation with cytokine and local inflammatory cells

Abstract

The inflammatory infiltrate is a constant phenomenon present in tumor development. A inflammatory infiltrate composed of T lymphocytes and macrophages contribute to tumor growth and metastasis. In the inflammatory infiltrate the tumor cells are capable of expressing receptors, such as toll-type receptors that modulate the local and systemic inflammatory response by the release of cytokines and chemokines that modulate the inflammatory cell recruitment, growth and proliferation and may thus contribute to tumor progression. Thus, the main objective of this proposal is to assess the toll receptor gene expression in mammary carcinoma in cats, as well as to evaluate the expression the profile of proinflammatory cytokines and correlates them with the different classifications and standarts of breast tumors and the inflammatory infiltrate of lymphocytes and macrophages by immunohistochemical analysis. For this purpose, shall be taken at least 20 samples of breast tumors in cats. The samples will be stored in formalin solution (10%) and in freezer - 80 degrees to the preservation of gnomic DNA and RNA samples. These samples will be processed for histopathological evaluation according to standard procedure and subjected to evaluation of gene expression of toll receptors and cytokines by qPCR. Thus it is hoped to better understand how the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of tumors in cats with breast cancer.
