Effect of 1064 nm Nd:YAG and 980 nm laser with irrigants protocols on radicular dentin microhardness and roughness

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of the association of 1064 nm Nd:YAG and 980 nm diode laser with irrigation protocols in microhardness and roughness of bovine root dentin. 25 bovine incisors will be longitudinally split into 2 halves (n = 50). The initial values of the samples will be obtained from cervical, middle and apical root third in which the subsurface microhardness and surface roughness will be measured before the treatments application. After initial testing the 50 samples will be randomly divided among the following groups (n = 10): 1 - deionized water (negative control); 2 - 17% EDTA without agitation (positive control 1); 3 - 17% EDTA with manual agitation (positive control 2); 4 - 17% EDTA + 50 seconds of diode laser (2W) agitation; 5 - 17% EDTA + 50 seconds of NdYAG laser (1.5W) agitation . After treatments all specimens will be irrigated with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and distilled water, except for the negative control group. Subsequently the samples will be retested to microhardness and roughness tests to obtain the final values. The data will be analyzed for the distribution and homogeneity to determine the appropriate statistical method. The morphological analysis will be performed by the images obtained by confocal laser microscopy.
