Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the influence of Nd:YAG and diode laser irradiation with or without CCP-ACP on eroded and abrasioned dentin. Two hundred and eighty fragments (4x4mm) will be obtained from human root dentin. Half of the specimen surface will be exposed to erosive/abrasive challenges and preventive treatment; the other half of the surface will be used as control. The groups will be divided in Group A: liquid hydrochloric acid (HCl), Group B: liquid HCl + Abrasion, Group C: gaseous HCl, Group D: gaseous HCl + Abrasion. Each group will be divided into seven subgroups: Sg 1: Control; Sg 2: CPP-ACP; Sg 3: experimental paste; Sg 4: CPP-ACP + Nd:YAG laser, Sg 5: experimental paste + Nd:YAG laser; Sg 6: CPP-ACP + diode laser; Sg 7: experimental paste + diode laser. Firstly, the initial erosive challenge will be done: liquid HCl (time and number of expositions will be determined). Then, the preventives treatments will be accomplished: Nd:YAG laser (0.4 W, 10Hz) for 20 seconds, diode laser (parameters will be determined) and CPP-ACP for 5 minutes. Subsequently, according to the corresponding groups, the erosive/abrasive challenges will be performed: liquid HCl (pH 1.2)/ brushing and gaseous HCl (pH 1.2)/brushing (cycles and time will be determined in a preliminary study). The analysis will be according to the wear, microhardness, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). The data obtained by quantitative methods will be analyzed in relation to their distribution, being observed the normality and homogeneity of the sample distribution. If they were normal and homogeneous, the variance analysis will be performed. The non-parametric test will be done otherwise. SEM and EDS will be evaluated qualitatively. (AU)
