Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate in vitro the effect of desensitizing treatments (DTs) on bovine root dentin eroded at different times and, in vivo, the effect on dentin hypersensitivity (DH) and the evolution of erosion/abrasive process. For the in vitro study, 80 slabs of bovine root dentin will be used and divided into 6 groups: G1 control; G2 Oxagel, G3 Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing; G4 Mi Paste, G5 experimental agent (casein); G6 laser diode. The surface morphology, size of dentinal tubules, loss of volume, step of wear, the wear profile and roughness will be evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and the dentin permeability will be measurement by optical microscopy (OM). The analyzes will be performed in 3 different periods of erosion (0.3% citric acid), after the application of DTs and the data will be previously analyzed to determine the most appropriate statistical method. The in vivo study will evaluate the effect of DT that obtains better result in the first stage. Twenty patients who present eroded cervical lesions will be selected and these will be divided into 2 groups (control and treated). The evaluation of the DH will be perform in 4 clinical sessions, with the interval of 7 days among them, before and after application of the treatments and evaluated by the Visual Analogical Scale (VAS). For analysis of surface wear, lesions replicas will be make at baseline and after treatment application in each session and evaluated by CLSM. The superficial wear data will be evaluated as previously described and DH data will be submitted to the nonparametric test.
