Abstract

The crescent demand for electrical energy and the interconnecting of Electrical Power Systems (EPS) have increased the complexity of planning and operation of these systems. Besides that, the large investments necessary to increase the capacity of EPS and environmental factors, of growing importance, force the system to operate close to its power transfer limits. The importance of electrical energy supply and the increasing complexity of EPS imply in the need of tools capable of orienting planning and operation in order to guarantee its security. This research project aims to carry on the research performed at LACOSEP (Laboratory of Computational Analysis in Electrical Power Systems), improving the developed methods of load margin estimation by investigating limit induced bifurcations and developing preventive control selection methods in the context of voltage stability.
