Abstract

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), with considerable morbidity and mortality. The experimental autoimmune neuritis is the experimental model of the GBS. EAN is an inflammatory autoimmune disease which culminate in the demyelination of hte peripheral nerves. This response is mediated Th1 and Th17 lymphocytes. However, it is still to be elucidated whether how these T cells would be able to initiate the disorder as they have a helper profile. Preliminary results of our lab show these neuritogenic CD4+ T cells acquire a cytotoxic profile and express high levels of granzymes B and C. We also could manage to identify a subpopulation of T lymphocytes CD4+CD8±+ into the lymphoid organs during the evolution of the disease and in the PNS in the peak of the clinical signs. Thus, it is our objective to identify the participation of the CD4+CD8±+ T lymphocytes in the genesis or the resolution of the EAN induced in Lewis rats.
