Abstract

Digital anatomical treatises and atlases have gained grounds in learning environments, especially in settings for higher medical education. In this work we describe the development of a tridimensional model of the human hand to produce an interactive atlas, built from dissected specimens and illustrative art drawings. Six specimens will be provided by the Department of Morphology of the Santa Casa School of Medical Sciences - FCMSCSP, keeping absolute concealment of donor's ID and full respect to the proper ethical precepts. As for results, we intend to obtain a tridimensional interactive digital model of the human hand, which will enable users to set different levels of layer transparency allowing visualization of the underlying anatomical structures and comparisons of representative drawings and real dissected specimens. With this feature, we intend to bring closer the representation of an ideal art illustration to the reality of human anatomy and its variations. The atlas may be available in the web and the access can be restricted to different groups, according to the teaching objectives and educational environments.
