Abstract

Economic development and disordered growth of populations associated with the lifestyle of modern society, are complex processes that share a common denominator: the availability of suitable and reliable energy supply. One possibility to solve this problem is sustainable development through alternative energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy and biomass. For both export and domestic market, biomass is considered one of the main alternatives for diversification of energy sources and the consequent reduction of dependence on fossil fuels. In this research project undergraduates should develop a linear programming model that assists in decision-making regarding the feasibility of installing digesters for biogas production on farms aimed at milking. For the last years, it has been highlighted the research on mathematical models that seek to relate the variables that influence the biogas production digesters as well as different types of raw material like the waste of pigs. However, the main objective of this work is to develop a mathematical model to analyze the feasibility of installing digesters to produce biogas from the anaerobic digestion of cattle manure and subsequently solve the proposed model using the classical simplex method in order to obtain results which may serve to support decision-making.
